On Tuesday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles and the rest of the 31 NFL teams finalized their initial 53-man roster for the 2025 season.
Over the last few days, the Eagles made a few tough cuts ahead of the 4 pm ET deadline on Tuesday, including parting ways with second-year wide receiver Ainias Smith, young cornerback Eli Ricks, and both QBs Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kyle McCord.
And we can’t forget that the Eagles made a few trades as well to bolster their roster. In addition to those moves, Philadelphia also placed one of its draft picks on injured reserve, delaying the start of his NFL career.

Eagles OT Myles Hinton to Begin Rookie Season on Reserve/Injured List
According to Andrew DiCecco of InsideTheBirds.com, the Eagles put sixth-round pick offensive tackle Myles Hinton on the reserve/injured list with a designation for him to return.
Eagles fans were wondering who would get the phantom IR spot at the end of camp. Hinton did not suffer any injuries during the preseason. In fact, the rookie lineman played well and showed flashes in the snaps he got in the preseason.
Both Myles Hinton and Cam Williams are setup for success. Learning from Jeff Stoutland, Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata is a luxury. They both have traits and I think they have starter potential down the line. https://t.co/soB8Bqtl8l

However, this sneaky roster move allows Philadelphia to keep Hinton and continue to develop him.
When a player goes on the reserve/injured list and gets that return designation, that player must sit out at least four games. That said, when a player, in this case, Hinton, gets cleared from IR, the Eagles can open up his 21-day practice window, where they can activate him at any time.
Now, if the Eagles do not activate Hinton from the IR after opening his practice window, he will be forced to miss the season as he reverts to season-ending IR.
The good news for Philadelphia is that they do not need Hinton to play immediately. The Eagles are set at the tackle spots with Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata. Behind Johnson and Mailata, the Eagles have Fred Johnson, who will serve as their backup swing tackle.
Philadelphia brought back Johnson in a trade after signing a one-year deal in free agency with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Eagles also have Matt Pryor, who can play tackle and guard, and rookie Cameron Williams, who made the team as a sixth-round pick.
