Eagles Finally Cut Failed Signing Who Never Made an Impact
The Philadelphia Eagles are 6-2 on the year and have found a groove over the past couple of weeks. Philadelphia has won four games in a row and is rolling right now.
The trade deadline was Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. ET, and the Eagles stayed pat. Even though they didn't make a trade, Philadelphia still made a roster move and released an underwhelming offensive player.
Eagles News: Albert Okwuegbunam Was Released on Tuesday
Per Zach Berman, the Eagles decided to let go of tight end Albert Okwuegbunam. Okwuegbunam landed on IR at the beginning of the season with a core muscle injury and didn't play a single snap for the team this year. The Eagles opened up his 21-day practice window on Oct. 16, and that expired tomorrow.
Philadelphia traded for Okwuegbunam back in 2023 but he didn't do anything with the team. In four games during the 2023 season, he had one target but finished with zero catches. He was a complete non-factor out there on the field.
The Eagles have Grant Calcaterra, Jack Stoll, and Dallas Goedert on the team. Goedert has missed the past three games with a hamstring injury but will return at some point this season.
They didn't need to keep Okwuegbunam and decided it was time to finally part ways. Last February, the Eagles gave the 26-year-old a one-year extension through the 2024 season but that clearly didn't work out. Philadelphia won't miss having Okwuegbunam. Frankly, they barely even saw him on the field over the past two seasons.
