Former Eagle Visiting NFC Rival in Hopes of NFL Comeback
Veteran running back Boston Scott was one of the more popular Philadelphia Eagles players in recent years. Even though he's never been the NFL's top rusher, Scott's never-say-die attitude on the gridiron earned him a lot of respect in Eagles fans' hearts, which is why they were sad to see him join the LA Rams over the offseason.
Scott's time with the Rams was brief as he was released by the organization just before September. He eventually joined the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad in a move that lasted about two weeks before a partially torn meniscus forced his release from the Steel City.
The 29-year-old RB has since been rehabbing his knee in preparation for a potential NFL comeback. Well, it turns out that his dream might soon become a reality.
Eagles News: Saints Invite Boston Scott to Workout
NFL insider Justin Schultz is reporting that the New Orleans Saints are hosting Scott for an "upcoming workout." The former Louisiana Tech runner began his professional career with the Saints when he was drafted 201st overall in 2018.
Even though Scott began his career with the Saints, NFL fans know him more from his stint with the Eagles.
He joined Philadelphia partway through the 2019 campaign before going on to play 75 regular-season games in an Eagles uniform, tallying 1,861 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns on 373 touches. He also recorded 120 rushing yards and three TDs in eight postseason appearances with the franchise.
Even though his first trip to the Big Easy didn't go as planned, it isn't hard to see why New Orleans would be interested in Scott. Outside of Alvin Kamara, the Saints' RB room is in shambles as Jamaal Williams is currently dealing with a groin injury while a hamstring issue just landed Kendre Miller on the injured reserve.
Scott is a proven veteran, so it wouldn't be a shock if other teams outside the Saints are interested in his services. With that in mind, could the Eagles join the mix?
Saquon Barkley has been phenomenal as the RB1 in Philadelphia, however, the team's depth beyond him is lacking. Scott would provide Nick Sirianni's staff with another familiar face who isn't afraid to eat some extra carries if it means preserving Barkley's health for the upcoming postseason.
With RB-related injuries piling up around the league, it likely won't be long before Scott finds out where he's playing next.
