Eagles Fail to Clear Up Big Super Bowl Injury Concern on Tuesday
By Joe Summers
The Philadelphia Eagles were ruthlessly dominant in their 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship, though one of the bigger storylines entering the contest was the health of the offensive line.
Starting center Cam Jurgens couldn't suit up due to injury, creating a unique situation. Philadelphia was forced to start Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson at center, and he, unfortunately, got hurt himself.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, head coach Nick Sirianni did not have an update on Dickerson's status ahead of the Super Bowl matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. That said, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer expects Dickerson to play.
Nick Sirianni Has No Update on Landon Dickerson's Injury
Jurgens said after beating the Commanders that he'd be good to go and if McLane's reporting is correct, Dickerson should be too. That's important given the role this offensive line plays in the rushing game, especially considering that Kansas City has guys like Chris Jones, Charles Omenihu, and George Karlaftis waiting in the trenches.
Originally a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Dickerson already has three Pro Bowls to his name and has established himself as one of the league's best interior linemen. He graded 13th out of 135 qualified guards at Pro Football Focus, adding another successful campaign to his growing list of impressive accomplishments.
To say that his loss would be massive almost feels like an understatement. He's one of Philadelphia's most important offensive players, though it's worth pointing out that the Eagles still managed 229 rushing yards against an overwhelmed Commanders front.
The battle in the trenches could help determine who hoists the Lombardi Trophy. Philadelphia fell just short two years ago but has a revamped team that appears stronger on paper this time around. In order for this offense to be at its best, Dickerson needs to be on the field.
As things stand, FanDuel Sportsbook has the Eagles as 1.5-point underdogs. Should Dickerson get ruled out, those odds may change in the Chiefs' favor. Here's hoping that doesn't happen and that McLane is right.
