Cam Jurgens Provides Big Injury Update as Eagles Head to Super Bowl
The Philadelphia Eagles punched their ticket to the Super Bowl on Sunday by taking down the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game. Though the contest turned into an eventual blowout, Philly was tested early on, especially considering the team's injury concerns heading into the matchup.
That included offensive lineman Cam Jurgens, who was mostly inactive at practice leading up to kickoff due to a back injury. The Eagles opted to trot out Landon Dickerson in place of Jurgens to begin Sunday's showdown, but Dickerson himself got hurt, causing Jurgens to reassume his position on the O-line midway through the NFC title affair.
Still, though, fans are concerned about the veteran's status, especially since him playing didn't appear to be in Philadelphia's initial plans. Luckily, he provided some significant health news in postgame comments.
Eagles' Cam Jurgens Gives Key Health News After NFC Title Win
Jurgens told reporters "I'll be ready to go" when asked about his availability for the Super Bowl. Considering that kind of confident statement, fans should be put at ease.
A lot has been asked of the former Nebraska standout this year. He was tasked with following up an all-time talent in center Jason Kelce, who decided to hang his cleats up after the team was eliminated last playoffs.
Fortunately for everyone involved, drafting Jurgens to be Kelce's successor has massively paid off. He earned his first-ever Pro Bowl selection for his performance this season while missing just one game, providing an incredibly effective and reliable presence to the line after such a key loss in Kelce.
The fact the Super Bowl is two weeks out, instead next weekend, will likely play a huge factor in Jurgens being all systems go. He now gets entire week off of intense football activity to get his body right, priming him to be at his best to face either the Buffalo Bills or Kansas City Chiefs.
