The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending Super Bowl champions for the second time since 2017 and a big reason why is their dominance in the NFL Draft. Of the Eagles' 22 starters, 14 of them were taken in the draft including home-run selections such as Jalen Hurts (second round in 2020), Jalen Carter (first round in 2023), Quinyon Mitchell (first round in 2024) and Cooper DeJean (second round in 2024).
The homegrown nucleus took a hit when Josh Sweat and Milton Williams left in free agency. But the Eagles still have the core of a contender thanks to their success finding diamonds in the rough. It makes this year’s draft as important as ever to keep the Eagles on top of the league and it starts with a gold mine to work with as they enter Green Bay on April 24.

What Happened to the Eagles' Original Picks?
The Eagles own five of their original picks in this year’s draft. They hold the 32nd overall pick in the first round, the 64th overall pick in the second round, the 96th overall pick in the third round, the 134th overall pick in the fourth round, and the 168th overall pick in the fifth round.
The Eagles traded their sixth-round pick in this year’s draft in a 2023 trade with the Denver Broncos for tight end Albert Okwuegbunam. Okwuegbunam appeared in just four games for the Eagles in 2023 before he was released last November. He spent the rest of the 2024 season on the practice squad for the Indianapolis Colts.
Philadelphia traded its seventh-round pick to the Washington Commanders in exchange for Jahan Dotson. A former first-round pick, Dotson was expected to serve as the Eagles’ No. 3 receiver but caught just 19 passes for 216 yards and no touchdowns while appearing in all 17 games last season. Washington also sent their fifth-round selection (165th overall) as part of this trade.
How Did The Eagles Gain Their Additional Picks?
The Eagles acquired the Houston Texans’ fifth-round pick (161st overall) as part of a trade down in the 2024 draft. The Texans selected Cade Stover with Philadelphia’s fourth-round pick (123rd overall) as part of the trade while the Eagles selected running back Will Shipley with the 127th overall pick in last year’s draft.
Philadelphia also acquired Detroit’s fifth-round pick (164th overall) from the Cleveland Browns in last month’s trade involving Kenny Pickett. Pickett went to Cleveland in exchange for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and the Lions’ selection.
Eagles’ Needs & Potential Targets
The Eagles' biggest needs are safety, defensive tackle and linebacker. Safety opened up when the Eagles traded Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Texans in exchange for Kenyon Green. While Green will look to earn a spot on Philadelphia’s offensive line, the Eagles need a starter opposite Reed Blankenship and could target South Carolina’s Nick Emmanwori or Georgia’s Malaki Starks.
Williams’ departure to the New England Patriots has also opened up a need in the middle of the defensive line. The Eagles are counting on third-year defensive lineman Moro Ojomo to fill the void but the Eagles could look for another pass-rusher to join nose tackle Jordan Davis and three-tech Jalen Carter. The consensus mock draft on NFL Mock Draft Database lists Mississippi’s Walter Nolen going to Philadelphia with the 32nd-overall pick but Oregon’s Derrick Harmon or Michigan’s Kenneth Grant could also be in play.
Linebacker is the final need as the Eagles are looking for insurance for Nakobe Dean. Dean suffered a torn patellar tendon during last year's run to the Super Bowl and taking a linebacker here could provide a stopgap until he’s ready to return or set Philadelphia up for the future. Potential targets include Georgia’s Jalon Walker, South Carolina’s Demetrius Knight Jr., and Alabama’s Jihaad Campbell.
The NFL Draft begins in Green Bay on April 24.
