Eagles' Division Rival Makes Idiotic Trade on Deadline Day
By Joe Summers
The Eagles' potential stranglehold on the NFC East grew tighter after another embarrassing decision by Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, who hysterically traded a fourth-round pick for underwhelming young Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo.
Dallas gave up more draft capital than Kansas City did for DeAndre Hopkins or Baltimore did for Diontae Johnson, so it's safe to say this was a bad decision. Mingo may turn into a good player, though this still feels like a desperate choice by a failed front office clinging to relevance.
Meanwhile, Howie Roseman and his brass are in a position to win the division and make a deep playoff run. For all intents and purposes, the Cowboys' season is over.
Cowboys Trade for Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo
It's hard to overstate how bad this deal is for Jones. Mingo doesn't have a catch in his last three games and has just 12 on the entire season. He is not the same caliber of player that Amari Cooper, Devante Adams, Hopkins, or Johnson are, yet was traded for similar compensation.
Jones' strange handling of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb's contracts suggested he was losing his touch. Instead of signing extensions before the bill came due, he waited as long as possible and let market value go up. Now, he's stuck paying two of the NFL's biggest deals while sitting at 3-5 in a lost season.
He used the same strategy with Mingo. Jones could've traded for the 2023 second-rounder weeks ago for a much smaller price. The Cowboys waited until everyone else made their move and now just have egg on their face.
The stark contrast between these two franchises and front offices has never been more clear. Roseman and the Eagles are getting set for another playoff run with Super Bowl hopes while the Cowboys are, once again, back at square one.
