The Philadelphia Eagles are 3-0 after a dramatic 33-26 win over the Los Angeles Rams. That win was capped off by defensive tackle Jordan Davis blocking Joshua Karty's 44-yard field goal and returning it for a touchdown as time expired. He reached a top speed of 18.59 mph on the return, and that was the fastest speed by a player over 330 pounds since at least 2017, per Next Gen Stats.

This is just the latest example of what has been a fantastic start to the season for Davis. The Philly Special Show's Anthony DiBona highlighted that point on X, mentioning how some people questioned when the Eagles decided to pick up Davis' fifth-year option, which is something that looks like a great decision now.

Eagles DT Jordan Davis Has Been Lights Out

Through three games, Davis has 16 total tackles, two tackles for loss, three pass deflections, and a sack. According to Pro Football Focus, he has a 72.4 overall grade (28th among 164 graded defensive linemen), 62.9 pass rush grade (66th among 164 graded defensive linemen), and 67.5 run defense grade (37th among 164 graded defensive linemen).

Davis is second on the team among defensive tackles in total snaps (85) but is making his presence felt along the interior. He has been a reliable run defender inside and is using his length to get his hands up at the line of scrimmage. Eagles fans are loving what they are seeing from him.

The X account "Bleeding Green Nation" tweeted on Sunday, asking if it's an exaggeration to say that Davis has been better than Jalen Carter this season, and fans in the replies are saying it isn't a crazy take, especially with everyone being ecstatic to see what they are seeing from Davis.

Davis entered training camp in the best shape of his NFL career, having dropped 26 pounds during the offseason. The 25-year-old looks slimmer and is playing faster. He's also playing smart and with better instincts. Davis clearly put a lot of work into his game, and it's coming out with his production thus far. Since Philadelphia picked up his fifth-year option, he's signed through the 2026 season.

That's music to the ears of the staff and fanbase, as they have their young DT around for the next two seasons. If the Eagles decided not to pick up his fifth-year option, Davis would have hit free agency in the spring, but they now have more time to negotiate a long-term deal to keep him around.

If he continues to play like this, general manager Howie Roseman will do everything in his power to make sure that Davis remains a mainstay on the Eagles' defense.
