The Philadelphia Eagles escaped with a win over the Los Angeles Rams thanks to the heroics of Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Davis had the game-winning block and scooped it for an exclamation point of a touchdown. However, it was far from a perfect game for the interior of Philly's defense, with Carter continuing to make dumb decisions. After his block, the defender wasn't content to celebrate with his teammates but gestured towards the Rams' sideline.

What exactly the gesture was remains unclear, but what was transparent was the yardage it cost the Eagles and how difficult it made the following drive. Leading to NBC's John Clark asking head coach Nick Sirianni about the penalties. The head coach didn't throw his players under the bus but opted to take responsibility and said that the issue would be fixed. Sending a message that Carter is still going to have to answer for the complete stupidity that has been put on display in the first weeks of the 2025 season.

Eagles Star Defender Jalen Carter Still Under Fire Despite Philly's Heart-Stopping Win

The tone was set for Carter's 2025 season by the pass rusher spitting on Dak Prescott and being suspended for the rest of the game, as well as being fined for the action. One would think that this would caution Carter and motivate the star in the next weeks of the season. Instead, it has simply been more of the same, costing his team yardage even when making a great play.

Carter's impact on this defense is incredible, and the Eagles need him in the middle of the defense. However, if these levels of mistakes continue, you have to consider sending a message. Whether it is a team fine or lessening snaps just to send a message, the Eagles cannot continue to have these lapses in judgment.

If you're not the insane talent that Carter is, you're already sitting on the bench and falling out of favor. This is where production vs. tolerance comes into play, with the defender's incredible playmaking ability offsetting the mental errors that continue to haunt the Eagles. While the franchise is 3-0 and appears to be the league's most complete team, all it will take is Carter making one of these poor decisions in a close game at the wrong moment, and it could cost the franchise dearly.

This is why Philly's head coach isn't content letting Carter off the hook and is making it clear he will take care of cleaning up the issues. Sirianni understands that these mistakes simply cannot be accepted if the franchise hopes to defend its 2024 Super Bowl run.

Leading to the perfect decision of taking responsibility while also making it clear that the issues will be fixed. It buys you a level of respect in the locker room when you had every opportunity to throw a mistake-prone player under the bus. Instead, Sirianni will keep it in-house and correct what continued to be infuriating mental lapses.
