Eagles Cut Young Playmaker Just 8 Days After Signing
By Joe Summers
The Philadelphia Eagles are busy putting the finishing touches on their roster with a Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs rapidly approaching. This is obviously one of the best teams in the sport, but it's never too late to make minor changes.
Brandon Graham's status is the biggest storyline to watch after Thursday's news that his practice window was activated to potentially return from the injured reserve list. That said, a few other moves were understandably swept under the rug.
One of those moves was the release of TE Nick Muse from the practice squad, adding RB Lew Nichols in a corresponding signing.
Eagles Release TE Nick Muse From Practice Squad
Muse was just signed to the practice squad on January 22 after his contract wasn't extended by the Minnesota Vikings, with whom he spent the last couple of years.
Originally a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Vikings, Muse appeared in two games in 2023, catching one pass for 22 yards. He also had a tackle on special teams, though otherwise remained on the practice squad during his tenure with Minnesota. At six-foot-five and 250 pounds, Muse has ideal size yet has struggled to make an impact on an active roster thus far.
Muse was primarily a blocking tight end at South Carolina. That said, he managed to catch 67 passes for 805 yards and three TDs over three collegiate seasons, so perhaps there is still untapped potential that another organization could help him reach.
Tight end is one of the most difficult positions to make the transition from college to the NFL. It typically takes a few years for players to get comfortable, and now Muse will be entering his fourth year. He'll get another opportunity this summer, whether with Philadelphia or elsewhere.
For now, the Eagles are focused on winning the Lombardi Trophy. FanDuel Sportsbook has them as narrow 1.5-point underdogs with +110 odds on the moneyline, implying another close matchup on the biggest stage.
