The Philadelphia Eagles paid a pretty penny last offseason to bring in Bryce Huff. He got a three-year, $51.1 million deal in free agency. Despite heading into Philly with high hopes, Huff never took off.
Over 12 games, he only managed 13 total tackles, three TFLs, four QB hits, and 2.5 sacks. He was benched by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on multiple occasions, and the fit never worked out.
That's why the Eagles traded Huff to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 fifth-round pick that can increase to a fourth-rounder if certain benchmarks are reached. With that chapter closed for Philadelphia, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was asked why things didn't work out for Huff.
Vic Fangio Talks About Bryce Huff’s Time in Philly
Fangio signaled that his hand injury played a big role in his lack of production. He injured his hand and tried to play with it for a couple of weeks, but that didn't work. Huff underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his wrist, and when he came back, he had a big cast, which limited his hand usage. Fangio also called out that Nolan Smith got some snaps in his absence and started to separate himself from the pack.
It was clear the marriage between Huff and the Eagles wasn't going to work. He didn't show up for OTAs, indicating he wasn't trying to be around the team right now.
This offseason, Philadelphia added Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche to their pass rush. He joins Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Moro Ojomo, and Jalen Carter up front. Huff's 2.5 sacks and 20 pressures will be replaced in 2025 as both sides look ahead and put this behind them.
Huff is reunited with his former coach, Robert Saleh, in the Bay, while the Eagles are happy with the pass rush that's in place. The Eagles took a swing when they signed Huff but unfortunately, they missed.
