The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator search has been a slow process thus far, as the fan base has watched Mike McDaniel, Brian Daboll, and other candidates be in the mix for jobs with different teams.

Eagles fans are hoping that the team can make a home run hire after seeing the 2025 season get wasted by the Kevin Patullo experience. However, it's unlikely that will happen, as the Los Angeles Chargers reportedly hired McDaniel to be their next offensive coordinator, and Daboll could find himself with a head coaching job.

At the same time, that doesn’t mean the Eagles can’t hit a double or triple with their OC hire, which is where Bobby Slowik comes into play. On Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles interviewed Slowik for their offensive coordinator vacancy.

Slowik spent this season with the Miami Dolphins as their senior passing game coordinator on McDaniel’s staff. Before that, Slowik was the offensive coordinator for two seasons with the Houston Texans.

Again, Slowik wasn’t many Eagles fans' top option for offensive coordinator. However, based on how this process has progressed, he might not be a bad hire for what the Eagles are looking for going into 2026.

Eagles Shouldn’t Overlook Bobby Slowik in Offensive Coordinator Race

The 38-year-old Slowik has playcalling experience and is from the Kyle Shanahan tree, which could intrigue the Eagles’ brass, given they just faced Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs a couple of weeks ago.

Slowik spent six years in San Francisco, holding various positions, including offensive assistant, passing game coordinator, and passing game assistant. He didn’t receive his first playcalling experience until he landed in Houston, which made him a potential head coaching candidate after one season. Slowik made some noise with C.J. Stroud as a rookie in his West Coast scheme.

In 2023, the Texans were ranked 13th in scoring (22.2 points per game), seventh in passing (245.5 yards per game), and 23rd in rushing (96.9 yards per game). Even though the ground game wasn’t special, many around the league marveled at what Slowik did with Stroud, who won Offensive Rookie of the Year.

However, things went quickly downhill in 2024 for Slowik, as Stroud’s play took a nosedive. The Texans’ offense as a whole struggled due to various injuries and poor play. Houston was now ranked 19th in scoring (21.9 points per game), 21st in passing (207.4 yards per game), but 15th in rushing (112.3 yards per game).

The Texans fired Slowik, which led him to Miami to work with McDaniel, who also comes from the Shanahan tree, and has had one of the better explosive rushing attacks in the league. After not being an OC for a season, this could be perfect timing for Slowik, who can bring an identity to an Eagles’ offense that didn’t have one last year.

Now, will the offense be as creative and explosive as McDaniel? Probably not. But having an offense built on accuracy, anticipation, ball placement, and timing could be good for Jalen Hurts and Co. It's also worth noting that having more play-action passes isn’t a bad thing either, as it could create explosive plays.

Hurts’ playaction attempts have gone down from 133 in 2022 under Shane Stechien to 81, 71, and 79 over the last three years. Meanwhile, Stroud had 217 playaction attempts in his two years with Slowik.

Even though McDaniel and Daboll would be the ideal hires, Slowik offers a change-up for an Eagles’ offense that has the pieces to be right back in the mix in 2026. And if he does well, Slowik could find himself back in the head coaching conversation.
