Eagles Make Big QB Roster Move Ahead of 1st Playoff Game
The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting the Green Bay Packers in a NFC Wild Card matchup on Sunday. The Eagles have been one of the best teams in the league and finished the season with a 14-3 record and an NFC East crown.
The Eagles were able to rest their starters in Week 18 against the New York Giants, giving them extra time to rest for the postseason. That was great, as everyone is dealing with something at this point of the season. The biggest health question mark going into the playoffs was around quarterback Jalen Hurts, who suffered a concussion in Week 16 against the Washington Commanders.
Those fears can be put to rest now, as the Eagles waived quarterback Ian Book, signaling that Hurts is nearing a return.
Eagles News: Philadelphia Waived Ian Book on Tuesday
The Eagles added Book to their practice squad on Dec. 26 with Hurts sidelined. He never had to suit up, as Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee were able to hold down the fort for this club.
Philadelphia's offense is at its peak with Hurts under center. This season, the Oklahoma product had 2,903 passing yards with 18 passing touchdowns. He added 630 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.
Hurts still has some hurdles to clear to officially get taken out of the concussion protocol. Per NFL.com, there's a five-step process before a player is cleared to return. They are:
- Symptom limited activity
- Aerobic exercise
- Football specific exercise
- Club-based non-contact training drills
- Full football activity/clearance
The Eagles haven't disclosed where Hurts lies but he still has some ways to go. With the Eagles playing on Sunday, Hurts still has time to get out on the field and be ready to ball for his teammates.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Philadelphia is a 4.5-point favorite, indicating the oddsmakers believe Hurts will be out there on the field.
