Eagles Being Dominated by Browns at Joint Practice Has People Overreacting

Not only are we overreacting to preseason games, but now we're overreacting to joint practices, too?

While most of the NFL world roundly agrees at this point that preseason wins and losses don't matter, there will always be some people who think the sky is falling. And when you're the reigning Super Bowl champion, that scrutiny gets cranked up in a big way.

But even with this in mind, the latest situation in Philly is baffling. Usually, it's fans of other teams who want to see you fail, who are looking for any excuse to create concern. And usually, they at least tie it to preseason games, not just a single joint practice. But here we are, with a bit of the unusual on Thursday.

Eagles-Browns Joint Practice Results Leading to Ridiculous Reactions

The Cleveland Browns got the best of the Eagles in a joint practice on Thursday. By some accounts, the Browns were even "dominating." And so everyone responded in a totally level-headed way, right? Everyone acknowledged that this was just practice (just ONE practice), which saw the Eagles working without AJ Brown, Landon Dickerson and Lane Johnson, right? And everyone definitely realized that sometimes in practice, you purposely work on your weaknesses in order to improve, right?

Maybe not everyone.

And this isn't to put any specific beat writers on blast, either. Eliot Shorr-Parks may be more visibly invested in practice "wins" than pretty much anyone else, but it's not hard to find a large segment of Eagles fans agreeing with his concerns here.

Now granted, the Cleveland Browns are probably one of the worst teams in the NFL, and the Eagles are currently reigning as the best. An actual loss to the Browns could be a reason for some concern. But the gap between an actual loss and a "loss" in a joint practice is so large that it's hard to even put into words.

But hey, if you're torn up about Thursday's result, then you're probably pretty excited about being able to get the Browns as 4.5-point underdogs against the Eagles on FanDuel Sportsbook for Saturday, right? And before long, you should be able to get better odds than the NFL-leading +700 on the Birds to win the Super Bowl.

All snark aside, this situation is a nice reminder for everyone that the season is long. And before that, the offseason is especially long. There will be ebbs and flows. There will be days the Eagles look completely untouchable, and days when it looks like the sky is falling.

Fans of a team that started 10-1 before falling apart in 2023, then started 2-2 before winning the Super Bowl in 2024, should know better than most how long you should wait before reacting strongly to any results.
