Eagles Beef is Exactly What A.J. Brown Needs
The Philadelphia Eagles are 11-2 as we enter the Week 15 slate of games. They have won nine games in a row and are one game behind the Detroit Lions for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
When a team has a winning streak going like this, many would expect the excitement and vibes to be all positive right? Well, that's not the case with this Eagles team.
Following the win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, WR A.J. Brown seemed to take a shot at quarterback Jalen Hurts. Brown was asked what is wrong with the offense, and he said, "Passing."
That appeared to be a dig at Hurts and Brandon Graham basically confirmed those rumors during a radio hit on 94WIP. Graham stated, "I know 1 is trying and 11 could be better with how he responds to things. They were friends, but things have changed."
While this doesn't seem ideal with the regular season wrapping up shortly, this isn't the first time that Brown has been annoyed with his target share.
In Week 2 of the 2023 season, the Ole Miss product looked to be having an argument on the sideline with Hurts. Head coach Nick Sirianni had to step in and diffuse the situation.
In the game against Minnesota, Brown had four catches (six targets) for 29 yards. After that outing, Brown's production exploded over the next seven games (Weeks 3-9).
The 27-year-old had 56 catches (76 targets) for 897 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He also averaged 10.8 targets per game over this stretch.
Brown showcased he can be a dominant force when he sees an influx in targets and will likely want it to happen again. The 2019 second-round pick finished with 1,400-plus receiving yards in each of his first two seasons with the Eagles but probably won't hit that mark in 2024.
A lot of that has to do with the stellar play of Saquon Barkley.
We'll see if Brown's production increases over the last month of the season just like it did in 2023. If it does, the tension between Hurts and Brown may ease up as an important postseason run is about to begin. Or it can boil over and become a problem when games matter the most.
