The Philadelphia Eagles are on top of the football world after they dominated the Kansas City Chiefs, en route to a 40-22 victory.
The Eagles got revenge on this Chiefs team and shut down their 3-peat quest. Philadelphia is the only team in the league that should be content with their current roster. The other 31 teams need to be seeking improvements and are already shaking things up.
The Chiefs wasted no time making their first changes to their roster, already saying goodbye to seven players less than 48 hours after the game ended. On Tuesday, Kansas City signed 11 players to future/reserve deals, which left out seven players from their practice squad, leaving them to become free agents. They're also now all eligible to sign future/reserve contracts with other teams before free agency even opens.
That list of departing players includes linebackers Swayze Bozeman and Cole Christiansen, tight end Anthony Firsker, running back Keontay Ingram, cornerbacks Nic Jones and Steven Nelson and wide receiver Montrell Washington.
These players didn't make a big enough statement to the coaching staff to stick around for the 2025 campaign. Things can certainly change over the next couple of months, but the Chiefs are getting ahead of things.
The dominating victory by the Eagles has sent ripple effects throughout the NFL. Kansas City seemed destined to take over the league if they secured the first-ever 3-peat. Philadelphia refused to let that happen and showed that early in the game.
At one point, they were up 34-0 over the Chiefs. This contest wasn't close, highlighting how Philadelphia was the best team in the league.
They sacked Patrick Mahomes six times in the win while pressuring him on 53% of his dropbacks prior to garbage time. Mahomes finished with 257 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and two interceptions but a lot of the stats came when the game was over. They were just empty calories to bump up his stats.
The Chiefs know they have their work cut out for themselves this offseason after the embarrassing Super Bowl defeat. And that's why they already parted ways with seven players two days after the loss.
