Eagles Already Catch Huge Break With Latest Commanders Injury News
The No. 2 seed Philadelphia Eagles have the No. 6 seed Washington Commanders coming into town for the NFC Championship Game. The Eagles have been able to defend their home turf and sit one game away from another Super Bowl appearance.
It will be an NFC East collision on Sunday but the Eagles already caught a break ahead of this showdown.
Washington guard Sam Cosmi suffered a torn ACL in the win over the Lions and will be gone for the remainder of the postseason.
NFL News: Sam Cosmi Torn ACL in the Divisional Round
Cosmi being gone is a huge loss for the Commanders. The Texas product started the last 35 games for Washington and has a steady presence upfront for them. This season, Cosmi gave up one sack and five hits.
Per PFF, he had a 68.8 overall grade, 74.3 pass-blocking grade, and 66.4 run-blocking grade. His presence will be missed by the Commanders but that bodes well for the Eagles.
The Eagles have Jalen Carter causing havoc along the interior. In the win over the Rams, Carter supplied five total tackles, two TFLs, two sacks, and one pass deflections.
Washington will have Trent Scott replacing Cosmi. Scott has been with the Commanders for two seasons and has one start under his belt. Going on the road and into a hostile environment could be a tough matchup for Scott.
This contest will be very intense. It being the NFC Championship is one reason why but these teams being hated rivals is another layer that adds to the excitement for the game.
During the regular season, these teams split the series 1-1. In Week 16, Washington beat the Eagles 36-33 but quarterback Jalen Hurts left the game with a concussion.
This time, Philadelphia will have QB1 under center and seek to make the Super Bowl for the second time in three seasons.
