Eagles Proved Benched Veteran is Officially Done in Philly on Sunday
The Philadelphia Eagles are one game away from punching their ticket to the Super Bowl. In the Divisional Round, the Eagles defeated the Los Angeles Rams 28-22. They will be hosting the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game.
This will be the third time these teams will square off this season, so they'll have a deep understanding of each other. While that has the attention of the players and coaches in the building, snap counts for Sunday's game were released. And it highlights Bryce Huff's time with the Eagles could end after this season.
Eagles News: Bryce Huff Didn’t Log a Snap vs. Rams
It's been tough sledding for Huff in Philly. After inking a three-year, $51 million deal with the Eagles as a free agent, Huff has never been able to find a consistent role with the team.
In the win over the Rams, Huff didn't log a single snap. The week before against the Green Bay Packers, he played in one snap.
Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith Jr., and Jalyx Hunt were the trio of EDGE rushers who have earned the trust of Vic Fangio. The 66-year-old said the team has a good three-man rotation and will stick with it.
This has been a nightmare season for Huff. In 12 games with the Eagles, the Memphis product has just 13 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. That's a massive step back for the 26-year-old. In the 2023 campaign with the New York Jets, Huff had career-highs in total tackles (29) and sacks (10).
Philly believed they were getting an EDGE rusher just entering his prime, but it's been the opposite. He still has two left on his deal. If the Eagles want to move off Huff, they will get hit with a $22 million dead cap hit, according to Spotrac.
The way things have trended for Huff this season, this is a real possibility.
