Eagles Address Glaring Offensive Need in Latest Free Agency Prediction

One of the Eagles' biggest issues this season has been the lack of a reliable WR3. Fortunately, Philadelphia is projected to address that need in free agency.

The Philadelphia Eagles arrived at Week 13 of the NFL season with an NFC East-leading 9-2 record as they gear up for another playoff run. Several factors have contributed to the Eagles' early success, including an offense that averages 26.9 points (7th) and 389.1 total yards (3rd) per game.

Although Philadelphia's offense can stand toe-to-toe against the NFL's best attacks, the unit is far from perfect. After all, the Eagles are only averaging 195.7 passing yards per game (25th) and a lot of that has to do with the roster lacking legitimate wide receiver depth.

Aside from A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Nick Sirianni has received next-to-zero production from the rest of his wideouts. The good news is that general manager Howie Roseman has the perfect opportunity to address this glaring issue in the offseason.

Eagles Rumored to Target WR Elijah Moore in Free Agency

Several wide receivers will be available when free agency opens on March 12. One option that the Eagles could have their eyes on, according to Bleach Report's NFL Scouting Department, is Cleveland Browns WR Elijah Moore.

"Roseman should keep throwing darts at wide receiver until he hits, and Cleveland's Elijah Moore would be worth a look in free agency," Bleacher Report wrote. "He's flashed again this season, though not until quarterback Deshaun Watson exited the lineup."

Moore, a former 2021 second-rounder, is certainly an option worth exploring. The ex-Ole Miss wideout hasn't reached his potential since being traded to the Browns from the New York Jets in 2023 and joining the Eagles, who desperately need a WR3, makes a world of sense for both sides.

The Eagles' WR depth chart is top-heavy at the moment. The team's dynamic duo is up to their usual antics as Brown has turned 39 receptions into 727 receiving yards and four TDs in eight games while Smith has posted a 41-516-4 stat line in nine outings. Having said that, the production beyond them has been abysmal.

Offseason acquisition Jahan Dotson has struggled in the No. 3 wideout spot, registering only 10 catches for 110 yards in the first 12 weeks. Meanwhile, fellow WRs Britain Covey, Parris Cambell, Johnny Wilson, and Ainias Smith have combined for just 84 receiving yards and two TDs on 18 catches.

Is Moore perfect? No, but he's shown more promise with each passing week. The 24-year-old pass-catcher has tallied 20 catches for 200 yards and a touchdown in the last four games that Watson has missed due to injury, averaging 50 receiving yards per game along the way compared to the 19.4 yards he averaged in his first seven outings.

If the Eagles want to make life easier for Brown and Smith (and, by extension, Jalen Hurts), targeting a wideout of Moore's caliber should be near the top of the offseason "to-do" list. Even though he won't win a Super Bowl on his own, the ex-Rebel is talented enough to add another dimension (and a reliable set of hands) to the offense.

The Eagles will have their first opportunity to sign Moore when NFL free agency begins on Wednesday, March 12 at 4 p.m. ET.
