The Philadelphia Eagles have the Lombardi Trophy after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night. The title is the Eagles’ second championship in the past eight seasons, and they have a foundation that should give them a chance to repeat in 2025.

While the Eagles have their eyes set on championships, the Dallas Cowboys are chasing their rival. The Cowboys wrapped up a 7-10 season that resulted in the team parting ways with head coach Mike McCarthy and entering a critical offseason as they look to get the bad taste out of their mouth.

Of course, that gap doesn’t exist in the mind of Dak Prescott, who delivered an embarrassing take on how close the Cowboys are to catching the Eagles next season.

Dak Prescott Believes Cowboys Are “Very Close” to Competing With the Eagles

Prescott’s comments came during the Children’s Cancer Fund gala on Monday night. While the appearance was for a good cause, Prescott was asked for his reaction to the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory and delivered this assessment of the rivalry along with the Washington Commanders, who lost to Philadelphia in the NFC Championship Game.

"I feel like we’ve competed with the Eagles and beat them for the most part when we’ve played them. I don’t want to say ‘Check the record,’ when the other guy’s is holding the trophy, right. So credit to them. They’ve earned it and they deserve it by all means, but yeah, very close. Especially even when watching the NFC Championship and those two teams that we battle against each and every year a couple of times. As I said, feel confident that we’ve gotten the better part each and everytime. But just seeing such a dominating fashion, credit to them. It’s our turn and it’s on us."

Prescott is right that beating the Eagles is on them. He’s also right in that the Cowboys have competed with the Eagles throughout the past decade, splitting the 10 meetings since the beginning of the 2020s. But when it comes to this season, the rivalry was more of a “little brother” vs. “big brother” vibe, with the Eagles winning both meetings by a combined score of 75-13.

It should be noted that Prescott didn’t play in either meeting due to a season-ending hamstring injury, but the Cowboys didn’t look like a team that is on the verge of winning a Super Bowl. A brand-new coaching staff could help, but they’re also relying on a first-time head coach in Brian Schottenheimer and former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus as their defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys also have a roster that has several holes outside of their three stars, Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons. It’s also important to note that management may not agree with Prescott’s assessment since they were reportedly discussing whether they should trade Parsons over Super Bowl weekend.

It’s where Prescott’s assessment comes off as someone else that’s salty about the Eagles 'big win and will have the Cowboys continuing to chase Philadelphia as they head into the offseason.
