The Philadelphia Eagles quickly turned the page on the Bryce Huff era, trading him to the San Francisco 49ers this offseason after only one year. When the Eagles moved off Huff, they got a fifth-round pick back in return from San Francisco, which didn’t move the needle for most fans.
However, as Jimmy Kempski of the Philly Voice pointed out in his Bryce Huff sack tracker, the fifth-round pick the Eagles received can become a fourth-round pick if the veteran pass rusher has 8 sacks. The ex-Eagle had a quiet game in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks (0 sacks), but bounced back with a good performance in Week 2.
Bryce Huff’s Success with 49ers Could Help Eagles’ 2026 Offseason
In San Francisco’s Week 2 game against the New Orleans Saints, Huff had four total tackles, a QB hit, a tackle for loss, and a sack. For those keeping count at home, the ex-Eagle only needs seven sacks to reach Philly’s draft pick incentive.
According to Kyle Posey of Niners Nation, the veteran pass rusher also had five QB pressures in the 49ers’ win on Sunday. If you’re the Eagles’ front office, you quietly like to see Huff making plays, as it will hopefully help you out in the long run.
The Eagles have done a solid job over the last few years with their Day 3 draft selections, so potentially getting a fourth-round pick instead of a fifth could help them land a contributor. Or they could use it in a draft weekend trade to acquire more capital.
As we all know, Huff was a huge disappointment in his first year with the Eagles. He only had 2.5 sacks in 12 games, was a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl, and got outplayed by rookie Jalyx Hunt.
Philly fans thought they were getting the pass rusher they saw with the Jets, who had 10 sacks in the 2023 season under Robert Saleh. Now, the hope is that Huff can rediscover himself with Saleh, who is now the defensive coordinator in San Francisco.
Huff’s next opportunity to get a sack will come against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. It won’t be easy to chase down Kyler Murray, who has the speed and mobility to make plays out of the pocket.
However, he’s been sacked six times, including five in Week 1, so the Eagles hope that Huff can get one or more sacks next weekend to help them directly reach their draft incentive.
