The Philadelphia Eagles have never been shy about exploring roster turnover despite outshined success. General manager Howie Roseman is perhaps the best in the business, and he won't avoid putting starters out to the curb if he has a vision of an improved future.

We saw an obvious example of this with Milton Williams, who joined the New England Patriots on a mammoth $104 million contract after being one of the Eagles' best defensive players in their Super Bowl-winning season.

Now, another former Eagles starter who was beloved by fans is off to a terrible start with his new team. It's not overly damaging, though it is still a bad sign nonetheless.

Former Eagles OL Mekhi Becton Starting Poorly with New Team

Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman told reporters on Tuesday after practice that Mekhi Becton, who the franchise needs to replace with a quality depth piece, has not participated since the end of July. He's working through an ailment, though Roman expects him to be fine and is part of meetings and walkthroughs.

Becton, who switched from tackle to guard to support the team last year, ranked 21st out of 136 qualified guards at Pro Football Focus. This is an extremely talented player, so it was stunning to see Roseman so easily move on from him.

Originally a first-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft, Becton struggled early in his career largely due to injuries but has rediscovered himself. This is one of the better guards in the NFL, and Philadelphia will be hard-pressed to properly replace him. He moved positions so effortlessly, which made him a fan favorite and deservedly so.

However, the fact that he's been unable to participate in the Chargers' summer work for the last couple of weeks is an issue. Los Angeles head coach Jim Harbaugh is known for his effort on the offensive line, and Becton is expected to be a starter. There's no true competition for his starting spot, yet the team needs him on the field either way.

This is a Super Bowl champion with all the promise in the world. The 26-year-old needs to prove himself and show that Roseman was wrong to let him go, but this is not a great start with his new organization.
