This offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles were forced to move on from right guard Mekhi Becton. Becton opted to sign a two-year $20 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers instead of staying in
Philadelphia. Now it seems like another former Eagle could be joining Becton in Los Angeles following a significant injury.

On Thursday, Chargers All-Pro left tackle Rashawn Slater went down in practice and was carted off, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Though the severity of the injury is unknown currently, it doesn't sound great. Thus, the Chargers may have to consider signing former Eagles offensive lineman Jack Driscoll.

Chargers Should Consider Signing Former Eagle Jack Driscoll

When the cart gets brought out at training camp, it always has to be taken with a grain of salt. Teams' practice fields are usually far away from the facilities, so a cart ride is a more efficient way to get evaluated further. However, it's a bit different when an offensive lineman goes down and it requires the trainers to come out, like in Slater's case.

Therefore, Los Angeles may have to consider adding another lineman. Eagles fans may not remember Driscoll. Philadelphia drafted the 6'5' lineman in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The 28-year-old was a backup who played both guard and tackle during his five seasons with the Eagles.

Driscoll logged two seasons in Philadelphia, where he only lined up at offensive tackle. The first was in 2020, when he recorded a 69.7 pass block grade and a 46.4 run block grade, according to PFF. Then in 2022, he recorded a 56.2 pass blocking grade and a 61.6 run blocking grade.

In his other three seasons with the Eagles, Driscoll played both guard and tackle. Still, the 28-year-old is a good option for the Chargers if Slater's injury is long-term. Currently, Los Angeles' backup is first-year pro Ryan Nelson. Nelson was signed out of the UFL after playing with the Michigan Panthers from 2023-2025.

Driscoll's background in the NFL and experience in big games with the Eagles made a coach like Jim Harbaugh more likely to sign him. Even though Slater's injury doesn't affect the Eagles in any way, monitoring how the situation plays out will be interesting for one of their former players.
