The Philadelphia Eagles' locker room drama has reached new heights after the embarrassing Thursday night loss to the Giants. After spending all week trying to fix the broken offense, the Eagles were only able to put together one half of decent offense before completely collapsing again in the second half. Subtle shots and finger-pointing have obviously followed. One of the more confusing post-game remarks, unsurprisingly, came from star wide receiver AJ Brown.
Denying the reported players-only meeting between Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and himself from earlier in the week, Brown said, "I don't recall a meeting. I don’t know what you’re talking about." To make matters even worse, the 28-year-old playmaker then took to social media and clarified his comments.
AJ Brown Continues to Not Be on the Same Page as the Rest of Eagles
In his post on X, Brown said, "Just to clear this up. That wasn’t a meeting or a sit-down. I said “I don’t recall” because it got painted like there was tension and Sa had to step in. That’s not true. I was walking to my car, saw them, and stopped to talk. Nothing more."
This attempt to "clear things up" didn't really work, as it left Eagles fans even more confused.
The meeting between the three stars was reported to have lasted for hours, Eagles inside Jimmy Kempski calling it "positive". Barkley and Hurts later confirmed that the meeting took place, with star RB calling it a "good thing". They said it was not a contentious discussion, but rather a conversation among three friends.
Brown's comments on Thursday night and social media post on Friday, however, contradict this. He shied away from calling it a meeting and made it seem more like a casual conversation when he was walking to his car. That is a very different portrayal than what has been in the media for the past three days.
At the end of the day the details of the "meeting" doesn't matter all that much. What matters more is the fact that Brown seems to be operating at a completely different universe than his teammates. The Eagles' stars on offense can't seem to get on the same page, and this is the latest example of that.
As one of the leaders of the team, what Brown should have done is to move on and encourage everyone else to move on as well. Feeding into the locker room drama and giving media material to write about is not what this group needs right now. This makes things more difficult for Brown and the rest of the Eagles, who desperately need to focus on the task at hand before the season spirals out of control.
