3 Eagles Who Could Follow Kellen Moore to Saints This Offseason

As the NFL offseason continues, Philadelphia Eagles fans shouldn't be surprised if these three players follow Kellen Moore to the New Orleans Saints.

2. Kenneth Gainwell, RB

The running back room is another area the Saints will be looking to address this offseason.

While there's no questioning Alvin Kamara's status as the RB1, the depth beyond him his questionable. Injuries have limited Kendre Miller to two appearances in the last two seasons, Jamaal Williams' efficiency is trending in the wrong direction, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire just sat out the entire 2024 campaign.

In other words, New Orleans could use someone like Kenneth Gainwell.

Gainwell, 25, has been with the Eagles ever since he was drafted 150th overall in 2021. Although the ex-Memphis Tiger isn't among the NFL's top rushers, he's a serviceable backup option who's racked up 1,185 rushing yards, 721 receiving yards, and 13 total touchdowns across the last four seasons.

Gainwell's opportunities fell off a cliff last season due to Saquon Barkley's arrival. Still, that didn't stop the 25-year-old RB from tallying 406 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 91 opportunities (75 carries, 16 receptions). After being a front-row witness to that performance, Moore might consider Gainwell to be the perfect complementary name to put behind Kamara in the backfield.

Like Covey, Gainwell is also a free agent next month, and the budget-conscious Saints likely wouldn't have to overpay him to get a deal finalized. They also likely wouldn't have much competition from the Eagles now that Barkley is leading the backfield without much need for a helping hand.

Although losing a decent teammate like Gainwell would be unfortunate, losing him wouldn't be the end of the world. As long as the Eagles can find another RB who can give Barkley the occasional breather, they'll be more than fine.
