3 Studs (and 2 Duds) from Eagles’ Narrow Week 4 Win Over Commanders
By Tyler Maher
Stud: Jalen Hurts
Speaking of Hurts, he played pretty well on Sunday, too.
Hurts was also due for a breakout game after a sluggish start to the season. His first three games — while all wins — were subpar statistically, producing just 640 passing yards and the same number of touchdowns (3) as interceptions (3).
Fortunately, Hurts snapped out of his slump in Week 4. Playing from behind early on, Hurts had to air it out more than usual and proved he was up to the task, completing 25 of 37 passes for a season-high 319 yards. He also found Brown for a pair of TD strikes — his first game this year with multiple passing TDs — and contributed on the ground as well with 34 rushing yards on 9 carries.
While Hurts couldn’t do anything to stop Washington’s game-tying touchdown at the end of regulation, he responded with a big drive in overtime to get the Eagles into field goal range, giving Jake Elliott the chance to bang home the game-winning field goal.
Hurts didn’t have much margin for error in a game that went down to the wire, but that didn’t stop him from putting up his best performance of the season so far. This was the MVP-caliber version of Hurts that we saw last year, and it’s good to have him back.
