4 Eagles Who Will Make Their First Pro Bowl in 2023
By Isaiah De Los Santos
4. Reed Blankenship
Speaking of players on defense who’ve stepped up, Reed Blankenship has helped the Eagles’ secondary keep chugging after some offseason losses.
Blankenship’s picked up right where he left off in 2022 and continued to make plays for Philadelphia. He’s coming off of a Monday Night Football performance that saw him pick off Baker Mayfield for his first interception of the year, and his pass breakup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pushed his total to three so far this season.
Not only has Blankenship made plays on the ball, but also on ball carriers. He actually leads Philadelphia’s defense in tackles with 19, and he’s done that in just two games after missing Week 2. That includes 14 solo takedowns, showing how reliable he’s been at wrapping up opponents and preventing them from breaking off big gains.
Aside from great play to begin the season, Blankenship’s story is sure to earn him some love when Pro Bowl voting rolls around. He fought for an opportunity in Philly as an underrated free agent, which helped him make 10 appearances as a rookie. Now he’s taken hold of a starting role and kept this secondary strong despite losing two key veterans in C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Marcus Epps.
Assuming Blankenship keeps bringing it and the Eagles keep winning, it’ll be difficult to look past the former UDFA’s Pro Bowl worthiness.
