3. D’Andre Swift is the Best Running Back in Eagles History

Luckily for Hurts, he got bailed out by the best running back in Eagles history.

Forget Brian Westbrook. Forget Wilbert Montgomery. Forget LeSean McCoy. Forget Steve Van Buren. Those guys are old news. D’Andre Swift is the truth.

Swift erupted for 175 yards in his first actual game as an Eagle (since Brian Johnson refused to unleash him in Week 1), already giving him the 11th highest single-game rushing total ever for an Eagles RB.

It was a perfect combination of reliability and upside too.

Swift’s final 3 carries, which were basically the equivalent of taking a knee, combined for just 5 yards. His touchdown run was 2 yards, so he couldn’t have gone any farther.

Beyond those? He gained 3 yards or more on 20 of 24 rush attempts. That’s an absolutely ridiculous consistency and makes an offense nearly impossible to stop. And of course, it wasn’t just an ability to grind out those 3-4 yarders that was impressive. He broke loose for a 43-yarder to cap things off as well.

You don’t like to celebrate an injury, and we feel for Kenny Gainwell. It’s a shame that it took someone getting hurt for Brian Johnson to identify who his true lead back is.

But it’s been established clearly now, and Swift is the RB1.
