2. Joseph Ngata

I’m putting Joseph Ngata up here on the list because I want to get a painful one out of the way. I was really excited about Joseph Ngata, and even had him making the final 53 on my pre-preseason projections.

But I just don’t think he’s done quite enough to convince the Eagles to carry six wide receivers, and I still have Britain Covey’s punt return abilities keeping him on the 53.

Despite never even reaching 550 yards in a season at Clemson, Philly made Ngata one of our highest-paid undrafted free agents this year. He lived up to that by showing out in training camp practices. And fans quickly fell in love with the potential hinted by his huge 6-foot-3, 217-pound. And I do believe the potential is there.

But looking at Ngata’s stat lines from the preseason, he just doesn’t seem quite ready to turn that potential into production.

  • 1 reception for 4 yards on 4 targets
  • 3 receptions for 39 yards on 5 targets
  • 2 receptions for 32 yards on 6 targets

I was already projecting him as a cut before the final preseason game, and he certainly didn’t make much of a case for himself there either.

Ngata is a guy I certainly think makes the practice squad, and if we suffer any injuries in the wide receiver room then I expect Ngata to get called up and see playing time.

He’s one of 2023’s most promising undrafted free agents, and I fully believe Ngata will catch his first NFL pass this season in an Eagles uniform. I just don’t think he cracks the first draft of our 53-man roster.
