10 Eagles Who Will Be Cut by Tuesday’s Roster Deadline
The new 2023 NFL offseason schedule has made training camp and the preseason a little more interesting than in past years. Rather than requiring roster cuts every week, NFL teams now can carry their full 90-man roster right through their final preseason game.
The deadline then suddenly requires a full cutdown from 90 to 53 on Tuesday, August 29.
With the Eagles’ final preseason game behind them, here’s a look at 10 players who were on the roster bubble that fans can expect to be gone by 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
10 Eagles Who Will Be Cut Following Preseason
1. Ian Book
The selection of Tanner McKee in the 2023 NFL Draft didn’t immediately make Ian Book disposable (a sixth-round pick is no lock to make the roster), but as the preseason wore on the QB depth chart became clear.
Disappointing preseason or not, Marcus Mariota is the QB2 in this locker room, and that meant Book vs. McKee was a straight-up head-to-head battle for a single roster spot. The chances of Philly carrying four QBs are basically nil.
Well, Book did little to prove he still deserves the job he held last year. He was just 1/4 against the Ravens and didn’t even get to see the field against Cleveland. He then finished things up by being a total afterthought to McKee against the Colts.
McKee clearly jumped him on the depth chart early and didn’t look back. Book may still land on the practice squad though, especially with the huge number of young backup QBs who will be hitting the waiver wire on Tuesday.
