Thursday’s preseason game brought some terrible injury luck to the Eagles, who lost several players during the night and unfortunately saw a few contributors even carted off of the field.

One scary moment during the contest involved wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland. After landing on his head, he required medical attention and eventually a stretcher to leave the field.

While those watching from home were holding their breath, some fans in the stadium were seen doing the wave during the injury timeout. It’s safe to say a few Eagles players aren’t happy about that.

Quez Watkins was the first to chime in on Twitter. He said doing the wave in that moment is “insane” and included an emoji of someone putting their hand to their head to further show his disappointment.

Many might not have seen this since his account is private, though. However, teammate Darius Slay used his platform to hold those in the stands accountable.

Slay said fans need to “be better,” taking the tone of a parent reprimanding children for making an obvious error. Such an important player speaking up should hopefully get the attention of whoever participated in this celebration at completely the wrong time.

Watkins and Slay are absolutely right. The preseason excuse shouldn’t be accepted here, even if this was a different crowd than usual. When play has stopped on the field and teams are looking concerned, that’s a clear sign something isn’t right.

An important part of being a fan is lending your support in whatever situation it’s needed. That’s especially the case when someone goes down with an apparent injury. Cleveland and the medical staff should’ve been afforded all the time they needed to make sure the wideout was okay without any unnecessary distractions.

Hopefully Eagles fans learn from this and ensure nothing like it happens ever again.
