As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to face the Miami Dolphins in the final week of preseason action, the team has made yet another roster move. Safety Ugo Amadi has been traded to the Tennessee Titans just nine days after arriving in Philadelphia.

The 25-year-old defensive back will now join his third team this summer after coming to the Eagles in a deal for J.J. Arcega-Whiteside earlier this month. In return for Amadi — and a late-round pick — the Eagles will receive a late-round pick from the Titans in what is effectively a swap.

There was not much time for Amadi to become acclimated with the Birds or defensive coordinator Jonathan Ganon’s system, but it ultimately will not matter. Amadi will now have a chance to compete once again for a new team, this time in Tennessee. It may seem like a useless endeavor to trade a recently acquired player for a late-round swap, but considering what the Eagles traded away for the former Seahawk, now Titan, it has all clearly been worth it.

Ugo Amadi’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles was short-lived but helpful.

Had the news simply been that the Eagles had traded away second-round wide receiver J.J. Arcega Whiteside for a late-round swap, no one would have batted an eye. There was little to no chance Arcega-Whiteside could have justifiably made the roster. To get anything for his services, even a late-round pick swap, should be seen as a complete and total positive.

The decision to move on from Amadi is a positive signal for the section of the Philadelphia Eagles’ safety group, who are a bit closer to missing the 53-man roster than making it. Third-year safety K’Von Wallace showed up this past Sunday in a strong way, and defensive back Josiah Scott has done well showing his versatility, and both have a chance to remain in Philadelphia should the team decide to roster five safeties.

There will likely still be work done this season to properly improve their safety group, but until then, Josiah Scott, K’Von Wallace, and Andre Chachere all appear to be in the mix. It’s a shame there was not an opportunity to observe Amadi further, but the Philadelphia Eagles are likely confident in their decision. So long Ugo Amadi, we hardly knew ye.
