Philadelphia Phillies target No. 2 | LHP Jose Quintana

The Phillies’ need for starting pitching is about as obvious as any, and former Jose Quintana could be a solid stop-gap until the team can pursue a more suitable third option this offseason. Until such a time, Quintana could certainly provide the Phillies with some quality innings.

After a difficult 2021 campaign, Quintana has bounced back beautifully. On the season, Quintana has pitched to the tune of a 3.70 ERA. Quintana’s advanced stats are impressive as well, from his 37.7% hard-hit rate to his 1.7% home run percentage. He’s not much of a strikeout artist, but he’s efficient, effective, and would be a clear upgrade not only over Bailey Falter but Kyle Gibson and even Ranger Suarez.

If you want to watch Quintana before believing, he’ll be pitching in the second game of the four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 PM ET. Against the Phillies’ Bailey Falter, he’ll look even more impressive than otherwise.

Quintana is a free agent after the season, but that’s a bridge the Phillies should cross when they come to it. Until that moment, Quintana would be a valuable addition without a doubt. And at the very least, it’d be nice to get a left-handed arm in the rotation, much like it would be nice to have an upgrade in center field.
