Is Michael Jacquet really going to be the CB2?

Once the 2021 NFL Draft concluded, and the Philadelphia Eagles only walked away with one fourth-round corner, questions immediately began to pop up in regards to if Howie Roseman had some sort of greater plan at the position. Corner – specifically boundary corner – has been an issue for the Eagles for quite some time, with things only looking worse following an inactive free agency period.

The team has frequently been linked to the likes of free agent corner Steven Nelson this summer, but thus far, it doesn’t look like a deal is going to be reached.

With no-one emerging as a lead candidate for starting duties alongside Darius Slay on the outside, early signs in OTAs pointed to former UDFA Michael Jacquet being the one to win the CB2 job. Jacquet flashed some early signs of potential during his rookie season, but was then quite infamously torched by the likes of Michael Gallup during a must-win game against the Cowboys late in the season.

The Eagles could very well roll into Week 1 with Jacquet as the full-time starter opposite of Slay, or they could look to someone else. There are still a handful of free agent corners out there available to be signed, along with a few internal options who could offer higher upside.
