3 Phillies prospects who could be moved at the trade deadline
By David Esser
Following a strong finish to the first half of the regular season, and an NL East that’s still within arm’s reach, it’s starting to feel like Dave Dombrowski and the Philadelphia Phillies are going to shift into “buying” mode once the July trade deadline creeps a little closer.
Whether you think that’s a worthwhile strategy or not, the Phillies have very much put themselves into a win-now type of mindset with some of their recent free agency moves, and should be looking to capitalize on a weak division.
While the Phillies unquestionably have one of the worst farm systems in baseball, there are still a handful of prospects that they could deal in a few weeks’ time, prospects that would net them a solid arm or two.
These three Phillies prospects could be traded away at the July trade deadline.

Rafael Marchan, C
The fourth best prospect in the Phillies farm system at the moment (according to MLB.com), it would be rather silly to not trade Rafael Marchan sometime in the near future. The Phillies are married to J.T. Realmuto for the next 4.5 years, and relegating Marchan to a long-term backup role would be a waste of his value in the grand scheme of things.
If Dombrowski is looking to land someone of real value this season, without touching the likes of Mick Abel or Bryson Stott, building a trade package around Marchan makes the most amount of sense.
There’s plenty of “selling” teams out there who would likely be attracted to a young catcher with the potential to start later down the road.
