Darius Slay, CB

The inclusion of Dillard and Barnett on NFLTR’s list wasn’t all that surprising considering their status within the Philadelphia Eagles organization as a whole, but Darius Slay‘s name being tossed out there peaked my interest. There were some rumors of Slay being shopped around earlier this offseason, but his reworked deal seemed to silence any legitimate noise.

Here’s what NFLTR had to say about the Eagles current CB!:

"This one is a little off the wall but if the Eagles are really using 2021 to reset, retool and rebuild with a more stable foundation, a 30-year old cornerback might not fit their window. Slay’s still solid even if he’s not elite but most importantly he’s making a minimum base salary, which would make him attractive as a rental to a contending team in need of a corner. His prorated money would stay with the Eagles in any trade too, making it easier to cut or rework his deal in the future as he’s guaranteed just $2 million in 2022 and beyond. If the Eagles fall out of contention before the deadline, this is a possibility to keep in mind."

The point about Slay’s recently restructured contract essentially acting as a league minimum rental is a really good point, and something that I hadn’t really thought about when it was initially announced. If Philly ends up going full blown “fire sale” mode, shipping Slay off for a Day 2 pick would be fairly ideal.
