Continuing along with my series of addressing some of the top trade candidates from June (according to MLB Trade Rumors), I’m now honing in my attention on the outfield, a position that the Philadelphia Phillies are in a bit of a weird spot at at the moment.

Bryce Harper obviously has right field locked down, Odubel Herrera has a firm grasp on the center field job these days, and then there’s Andrew McCutchen.

While Cutch has begun to show some more “pop” since being moved off the leadoff spot, he’s still hitting just .221 on the season, and is one of the worst defenders on the team.

If Dave Dombrowski and the Philadelphia Phillies are serious about making a run at the division this year, they’ll likely have to find a better everyday left fielder – or at least add a platoon bat at the position..

If the Philadelphia Phillies look to improve their LF position at the July deadline, MLB Trade Rumors named some potential candidates.

Mitch Haniger, Seattle Mariners

The third best overall trade candidate according to MLBTR, landing Mitch Haniger would be a home run type acquisition for Dombrowski and the Phillies (pun intended).

More from Section 215

A former All-Star who possesses a career OPS of .827, Haniger is the type of bat who could come in and push the Phillies lackluster offense back over the top this season. Haniger is also making just $3.01 million this season, and is under team control through 2021.

For a team that is looking to open up a multi-year window moving forward, the 30 year Haniger really fits that timeline.

The only minor issue is that Haniger is a natural right fielder, which is obviously where Harper plays. However, Hangier does have some left field experience from earlier in his career – I’m sure the Phillies could make it all work.
