After weeks and weeks of wondering what the Philadelphia Eagles plan was at tight end, we finally got our answer on Friday.

They brought back Richard Rodgers – because of course they did.

With Rodgers now joining the Eagles for the fourth time in as many seasons (more on his return here), we’re now at a point where we can begin piecing together what the team’s depth chart is going to look like at tight end for the 2021 season (this is assuming that Zach Ertz will be either released or traded in the coming weeks, as he’s continuously expressed his lack of desire to play for the Eagles moving forward).

Taking a look at the Philadelphia Eagles updated TE depth chart post Richard Rodgers signing:

TE1 – Dallas Goedert

The most notable name in the room, Dallas Goedert is set to enter 2021 as the Philadelphia Eagles unquestioned #1 tight end for the first time in his NFL career. Expectations are very high for the fourth-year player, but he’s flashed enough potential over the past few seasons to warrant it.

Even while playing behind Ertz, Goedert has continuously seen himself graded out as one of the more complete tight ends in all of football, year after year.

Goedert is also playing for a new contract this season, and has publicly expressed his desire to remain in Philly moving forward. It’s no guarantee that he’ll receive said extension during the regular season (there are pros and cons to paying him early), but he feels like a player that Howie Roseman is going to prioritize keeping around throughout the current rebuilding process.
