Heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, it almost felt like a given that the Philadelphia Eagles were going to be drafting one, or even two new quarterbacks. The team was noticeably thin at the position following the departures of Nate Sudfeld and Carson Wentz, and as Howie Roseman said himself back in 2020, the Eagles are an organization that want to be known as a “quarterback factory.”

Well the draft came and went, and the only QB the Eagles added was that of Jamie Newman, an undrafted free agent signing who was promptly waived following the conclusion of OTAs.

With Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco now the sole arms in the Eagles building, one can only assume that some sort of roster move is going to be made in the near future to address the QB3 job. Fair warning, the current options out there in free agency aren’t great, but this is what happens when you wait until mid-June to round out your quarterback room.

With Jamie Newman now off the roster, here are 3 free agent QBs that the Philadelphia Eagles could turn their attention to:

Nick Mullens

2020 Team: San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers snatched up Sudfeld this offseason following his exit from Philly, so it’d be pretty fitting if the Eagles turned around and grabbed Nick Mullens.

More from Section 215

While Mullens isn’t the most impressive of throwers, he has 16 NFL starts to his name – a valuable trait for someone who could be viewed as an additional mentor to Hurts. At just 26 years of age, you could also make the argument that Mullens has added value as someone who will continue to develop over the years.

Mullens is currently rehabbing an injured shoulder, hence why he’s gone unsigned this offseason, but he could be worth stashing away on the injured reserve in the short-term if that means getting him into the building as a multi-year backup.
