Greg Ward, WR

The first name on this list that might see some heads turn, there’s genuinely little reason to believe that Greg Ward should be viewed as a favorite to make the Philadelphia Eagles roster in 2021. As much of a “feel good” story as he is, he was largely ineffective as the team’s starting slot receiver in 2020, and with Nick Sirianni set to overhaul the team’s passing scheme, one can only assume that Ward and his lack of explosiveness aren’t apart of any longterm plans.

Jalen Reagor, the team’s first-round pick in 2020, announced earlier last week that he would be seeing more starting reps at the slot receiver position, which in turn limits some of Ward’s on-field time.

With younger guys like Quez Watkins and John Hightower waiting in the wings as well, it would simply make little sense to continue force-feeding Ward the ball.

Ward was fantastic for the Eagles considering his former practice squad status, and he played a major role in getting the team to the playoffs back in 2019 alongside Carson Wentz. His “veteran” status might see him stick around as a bit of a locker room leader this season, but with DeVonta Smith and Reagor now the future at the WR position for Philadelphia, I wouldn’t absolutely lock Ward into a roster spot like he was this past season.
