The 2021 NFL Draft came and went, and the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t walk away with a guaranteed option at their second outside cornerback position. Fourth-round pick Zech McPhearson could end up filling the role if he impresses in training camp, but that seems like some rather lofty expectations to place on a player who might be better suited for the nickel in the long run anyways.

Nate Meadors was signed yesterday, but again, expecting him to win the CB2 job is rather rich.

With that said, there’s still options out in free agency should Howie Roseman choose to go that route. There’s a half-decent chance that the Eagles just go full “youth movement” at the position instead, letting multiple UDFAs battle it out with McPhearson and Meadors during camp.

The Philadelphia Eagles could still look to add a veteran CB.

However, if the team opts towards bringing in a veteran presence, there’s a few names still still sitting out there, available to be signed.

Steven Nelson

I’m going to keep my blurb on Nelson rather short just because his free agency status has been covered to death this offseason, but he would definitely provide the highest amount of upside out of the currently available options.

A six-year pro who played at a high level for Pittsburgh the past two seasons, Nelson would come in and solidify the Eagles CB2 position for another couple of seasons. He’s only 28 years old, and has played at least 15 games in each of his past three seasons.

However, acquiring Nelson would likely come at a rather expensive price, and cap space isn’t something that Howie Roseman has a lot of at the moment.
