Heading into this year’s NFL Draft, it wasn’t a foregone conclusion that the Philadelphia Eagles would be leaving it with Jalen Hurts still penciled in as their starting QB for the 2021 season. There’s been all sorts of smoke blown around in regards to the team’s interest in one of the rookie quarterbacks, along with a handful of reports linking the team to Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson (yikes!).

Following the Eagles’ decision to pass on Justin Fields in favor of Hurts’ former teammate DeVonta Smith, I think it’s pretty safe to say the team is committing to the former Alabama/Oklahoma QB for at least one season’s worth of games.

Knowing that there will still likely be some sort of pseudo-competition between himself and Joe Flacco during training camp, Hurts has been hard at work since the draft preparing for his new QB1 duties:

Alongside his work with QB trainer Quincy Avery, Hurts has been spotted getting some extra reps in with fellow Eagles teammates Jalen Reagor, Greg Ward, and the team’s before mentioned 2021 first-round pick Devonta Smith.

Hurts was also seen getting in a workout with the likes of Miles Sanders, Dallas Goedert, and second-year wideout John Hightower:

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has been busy building chemistry with his teammates this offseason.

It’s always a good sign to see players getting workouts in during the offseason, especially when you consider the fact that the NFLPA has pushed players to opt-out of voluntary team activities this summer.

Additionally, this upcoming season is obviously one where Hurts’ ability to be a starting quarterback will be put to the test. The former second-round pick flashed some potential down the stretch in 2020, but he’s still a ways away from being viewed as a “franchise” arm.

Building chemistry with his go-to weapons in Sanders, Goedert, Reagor and now Smith should only aid Hurts in his attempt to secure the Philadelphia Eagles starting QB job moving forward.

We all know Howie Roseman won’t shy away from drafting yet another new quarterback next offseason if Hurts doesn’t perform well this season.

Hurts was also spotted attending a recent Philadelphia 76ers game with new teammate Devonta Smith – a move that was likely done with the city’s fanbase in mind as opposed to anything football related.
