Following a rather lackluster Day 2 of drafting for the Philadelphia Eagles, Howie Roseman was quick to point out that the team still has eight picks to work with on Day 3 of the NFL Draft.

As dandy as that may sound, I think it goes without saying that the Eagles aren’t actually going to make eight total selections in the final couple rounds of the draft, especially when you consider the fact that the team currently has four draft picks in the sixth round.

Thus, be prepared for some trade action to go down.

Roseman and the Eagles have already pulled off a good number of transactions during this year’s draft process, too. They traded down from 6 to 12 a few weeks before the draft began, they then jumped back up from 12 to 10 on draft night, and they moved back a few spots in the third round from 70 to 73. Roseman is a man who loves him some draft trades, and I highly doubt that philosophy is going to change later this afternoon.

The team has two realistic avenues that they could go with their excess of Day 3 picks. They could package them together to move up higher in the fourth or fifth round, if there’s specific players on their board that they still covet. Or, they could pawn off a few of their picks to garner future draft capital in 2022. It’s become pretty well documented that NFL front offices are viewing 2022 picks as being “more valuable” than 2021 picks due to the uncertainty that has surrounded this year’s class – maybe the Eagles are feeling the same way.

It’s also worth highlighting that the Eagles have a certain tight end who goes by the name of Zach Ertz still on the roster. NFL insider Adam Caplan reported prior to the draft that Ertz would definitely be traded this weekend – that obviously hasn’t happened quite yet.

The Eagles could find themselves in a position to move up a few times with the combination of Ertz and later Day 3 picks.

Expect a lot of trades to go down with the Philadelphia Eagles on Day 3.

Ultimately speaking, the Eagles shouldn’t rush to offload as many picks as humanly possible, they still have some work to do in regards to filling out their current roster. They haven’t drafted a cornerback yet, they haven’t drafted an EDGE yet, they haven’t drafted a linebacker yet, they still need a backup RB and a backup TE, and it’s always a good idea to continue investing into the offensive line.

The Philadelphia Eagles have put themselves in a good spot when it comes to the final day of drafting, they pretty much own the sixth round in its entirety. However, now it’s about utilizing all of those picks in a manner that actually improves the roster. Roseman had a healthy number of Day 3 picks to play with last offseason, and he whiffed on a good number of them.
