Philadelphia Eagles: 6 thoughts on the decision to draft DeVonta Smith
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles drafted DeVonta Smith!
The pick that fans have been clamoring for since the 2020 season came to an end, Howie Roseman and the Eagles pulled off a draft day trade, moving up two spots via the Dallas Cowboys to snag Alabama’s Smith at pick 10.
Here are some thoughts on the exciting first-round selection:
This is a fantastic “morale” pick.

After a disastrous 2020 regular season, morale around the Eagles fanbase was at an all-time low.
They finished 4-11-1, Carson Wentz got traded, Doug Pederson got fired, they were mocked by the national media all season long, and all sorts of controversy surrounded the Eagles organization.
Even when Howie first pulled the trigger on trading back from 6 to 12, fans were pretty pissed off (despite the accumulation of a future first-rounder.) The collective Eagles community wanted a blue chip prospect to get excited about, specifically on the offensive side of the ball.
DeVonta Smith has been the fan-favorite since the moment the draft process began, and it absolutely buys Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie some much needed leeway. Fans are going to jump at the opportunity to bay “DeVonta Smith #6” jerseys, and people are going to go nuts when he scores his first TD at the Linc’.
Having a Heisman Trophy winning wide receiver from Alabama is quite the attraction come Sunday.
The Philadelphia Eagles landed Alabama WR DeVonta Smith.
Only time will tell if drafting Smith was the correct decision, but at least for the next couple of months, Eagles fans are going to be quite juiced up over the team’s first-round selection.
