With rumors still aggressively swirling in regards to the Philadelphia Eagles draft plans, one more clue has dropped via CBS’ Jason La Confora.

According to the NFL insider, executives around the league believe Howie Roseman would only target a trade back up into the top 10 for highly rated tight end Kyle Pitts, or a new quarterback. La Confora did mention that pretty much anything could be in play with Roseman and the Eagles, though:

"“If the Eagles move back up, the GMs I have spoken to believe it’s for Pitts or a QB. Never rule anything out when it comes to the Eagles and potential trades.”"

While the concept of the Eagles trading back into the top 10 isn’t a new one, the thought that Roseman would only do so for Pitts or a QB is. Many thought Philadelphia would happily jump up a few spots for someone like DeVonta Smith or Patrick Surtain II, leapfrogging the Giants and the Cowboys in the process.

Here’s some thoughts on each trade-up possibility:

Kyle Pitts

A prospect whom many view as the top pass-catcher in this year’s draft class, making a move for Kyle Pitts obviously makes sense for the Eagles.

Not only does Philly have a huge, glaring hole in terms of offensive weaponry, but Pitts is also from Philadelphia – a good fit for a team that consistently prioritizes “culture.”

Even with Dallas Goedert still on the roster, lining up Pitts in the slot would be an easy way to get both players on the field at the same time.

The only wrinkle in the idea that Roseman would aggressively move up for Pitts – should he drop come draft night – is that the Eagles likely forfeited a shot at drafting him by initially moving out of the top six. If Roseman really coveted Pitts as much as La Confora is suggesting, my guess is that he wouldn’t have traded back to 12 a few weeks prior to the draft.

Could the Philadelphia Eagles still end up with Kyle Pitts?

It’s possible that Pitts makes it past Miami at 6, and that the Eagles are able to pull off a deal with Detroit at a cheaper cost than what the Dolphins initially paid to get the Eagles’ first-rounder, but it feels rather unlikely.

Ultimately speaking, I think Roseman should just target someone like Smith or Jaylen Waddle, or a WR prospect on Day 2.
