The Philadelphia Eagles held their first press conference of the new league year on Thursday, where they did their best to calm any and all concerns regarding the team’s future outlook at the moment.

Spoiler: they weren’t super successful.

General manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni were the two individuals under the Zoom microscope, where the Philly media did their best to extract any bits of information that they could.

Here are the three biggest takeaways from the press conference:

No commitment to Jalen Hurts…yet.

More from Section 215

Once it was revealed that Carson Wentz was being traded to Indianapolis, a lot of Eagles fans were quick to anoint Jalen Hurts the team’s next starting quarterback. After all, he’s the only QB currently on the roster.

However, based on the way both Roseman and Sirianni spoke about Hurts and the team’s overall QB situation, it doesn’t sound like that’s necessarily the case quite yet. The duo failed to formally commit to Hurts as the team’s unquestioned starter (which was expected), while simultaneously bringing up a desire to add further competition.

Trades, free agency, and ultimately the draft were all named as ways in which the Philadelphia Eagles could see added QB talent join the roster.

Roseman and Sirianni obviously weren’t going to detail their entire quarterback plan during this press conference, as it could lessen the value of their sixth overall pick, but the lack of commitment does somewhat put a squash to the reports that surfaced last week which stated that Jeffrey Lurie had *commanded* Roseman to build around Hurts in 2021.

The Eagles’ starting QB very well might not be on the roster quite yet.
