Fresh off back to back wins over the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees, things are looking pretty good down in Clearwater for the Phillies at the moment. Their 15-0 thrashing over the Yankees this afternoon was specifically impressive.

I haven’t done a “stock watch” piece since the team’s Monday tie with the Baltimore Orioles, so this specific set of rankings will be taking into account the last three days of action. However, the outpour of offensive power that we witnessed against NY will be appropriately dominating today’s list.

Phillies stock watch!

Into the rankings!

Stock UP: Mickey Moniak

The #1 overall pick way back in 2016, Mickey Moniak had himself a day against the Yankees.

More from Section 215

Subbing in halfway through the affair, Moniak hit two gigantic home runs out to right field – one against a right-handed pitcher and one against a left-handed pitcher. Moniak is still facing an uphill battle when it comes to seeing major league action this season, but Joe Girardi also mentioned his name first when asked about who’s impressed him in camp thus far.

Definitely a name worth keeping an eye on moving forward!

Stock UP: Odubel Herrera

Whether people like it or not, Odubel Herrera has had himself a pretty good start to Spring Training thus far. He went 1-3 with a run scored and a stolen base on Monday, and then followed that up with a strong performance against New York on Thursday.

Herrera finished the afternoon 2-3 with one HR and two runs scored. He also chucked in an outfield assist for good measure. His continued production will ultimately present the Phillies with a tough decision in regards to his future with the club.

Stock DOWN: Hector Rondon

Going back to Wednesday’s game against Detroit, RHP Hector Rondon did not have a great first impression with his new team, allowing one earned run in just 1.0 innings of work. Plenty of time for the veteran to find his rhythm this spring, but it was an underwhelming debut nevertheless.

Stock UP: Luke Williams

A name most people probably weren’t familiar with prior to today’s game, Luke Williams had himself a fantastic afternoon of baseball. He went 2-4, scoring two runs and driving in three RBIs in the process.

A versatile infielder who has a good amount of speed to him, Williams has likely earned himself a more extended look moving forward. It’s hard to imagine him getting any sort of serious major league roster consideration, but it’s always encouraging to have above average depth down in the minor leagues.

Stock UP: Phillies pitching

There’s so many names worth highlighting here that I just had to lump them all into one category. Over the past three days, notable Phillies pitchers who had good outings includes: Zack Wheeler, Zach Eflin, Ivan Nova, David Hale, Matt Moore, Vince Velasquez, Brandon Kintzler, Bryan Mitchell, and Michael Ynoa.

Guys like Wheeler, Eflin, Moore, and Kintzler are all expected to contribute at the major league level this season, so it’s really good to see them locked in at the moment. Additionally, Bryan Mitchell in particular is one of those fringe-level players who has really impressed me thus far – he was sitting at 95 MPH with his fastball today.

Even seeing guys like Nova and Ynoa bounce back from their initial poor outings is positive development.

As always, Spring Training is nothing more than glorified practice reps. However, it’s always worth checking in on player performance as we near Opening Day – and an official major league roster.
