Before we dive on into this article, I need to make something very clear: the Philadelphia Eagles currently have negative cap space.

I’m well aware of this dilemma, but I’m also well aware of the fact that Howie Roseman will ultimately get his team back under the cap. Cutting Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson was just the start – plenty more cap-saving moves are on the way.

Taking into the account that the Eagles will eventually find themselves with a little wiggle room on the payroll, one major weakness that needs addressing is that of cornerback. Even if they draft a CB early, adding a veteran on the outside needs to be a priority.

The Philadelphia Eagles could use a cheap CB via free agency.

With that said, here are eight (yes eight!) potentially low-cost players that Roseman could end up targeting during free agency:

Xavier Rhodes

The name that’s going to be frequently linked to the Philadelphia Eagles over the next couple of months, landing Xavier Rhodes would be a pretty big get for newly hired defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

After a pretty miserable 2019 campaign in Minnesota, Rhodes joined Gannon out in Indianapolis and had a downright fantastic 2020 season.

He recorded two interceptions and 12 passes defended, finishing the year allowing a career-best completion percentage of 51.9%.

Set to turn 31 in June, my guess is that a decent enough market will develop for Rhodes during free agency. This will likely price Roseman and the Eagles out of the affair, but there’s still that off-chance that Gannon could lure him to Philly with promises of being a starting corner alongside Darius Slay.
