In my first mock draft since the Carson Wentz trade, I take a look at what the Philadelphia Eagles could do with not only an extra pick in the third round, but a new starting quarterback altogether.

In past mocks, I normally took the approach of constructing an offense better suited for Wentz and a potential “fixing” year for him under Nick Sirianni. In this most recent one, that’s all thrown out the window, as I’m now taking the approach of building around a new starting QB in 2021.

With that said, let’s get into the mock!

The Philadelphia Eagles select…

6. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Florida. Kyle Pitts. TE/WR. 54

While I do think Howie Roseman will take a long hard look at available quarterbacks with the sixth overall pick, this particular simulation that I ran had both Justin Fields and Zach Wilson off the board by the time the Eagles pick rolled around. With Ja’Marr Chase also unavailable (the Dolphins took him), I went with who many people are considering the best overall weapon in this year’s class.

A hybrid pass-catcher out of Florida, Kyle Pitts is an incredibly interesting prospect to study. He’s listed as a tight end, but he spent a large part of his collegiate career playing at all sorts of different wide receiver positions.

He out-muscled smaller corners on the outside as an X, dominated with quick slants as a slot option, and even occasionally beat safeties over the the top as a deep threat. Pitts logged 770 yards on just 43 receptions last year (17.9 yards per catch!), and led the Florida offense with 12 receiving TDs.

Standing at 6-5 with a wicked amount of speed, Pitts truly is the definition of a “matchup nightmare.” There’s questions regarding his overall “fit” at the professional level (is he a TE, WR, or both?), but in this particular mock I have the Philadelphia Eagles going all in on the belief that Pitts is the next great offensive player coming out of college.

Oh, and Howie Roseman also attended the University of Florida. Worth noting!
