As I’m writing this, MLB’s Opening Day is just barely over a month away – which is a pretty crazy reality considering just how slow this year’s offseason has felt. It’s somewhat hard to comprehend that just a few short months ago the Philadelphia Phillies still had Andy MacPhail and Matt Klentak running their ball club (yikes!).

Despite the snail-like pace that everything has transpired at this winter, baseball is genuinely right around the corner. Spring Training is fully underway down in Clearwater, and almost every Phillies player has reported to camp thus far.

While the Phillies might not be World Series contenders as currently constructed, they project to be competitive this season. There are three major strengths that I envision the team leaning on in 2021.

The Philadelphia Phillies have 3 major strengths to look forward to this season.

More from Section 215

Bryce Harper is on the roster!

As long as Bryce Harper remains a member of the Philadelphia Phillies, they’ll be a competitive baseball team.

The National League MVP back in 2015, Harper is coming off a pretty impressive 2020 campaign with the Phillies. Despite dealing with a back injury for a majority of the second half, he still finished the season ranking towards the top of the MLB in a handful of statistical categories.

He ranked first in walks (49), fifth in on-base percentage (.420), and 13th in OPS (.962).

Impressive numbers for a guy who could barely throw a baseball by the end of the regular season.

Assuming Bryce is back in action at 100% here in 2021, his presence alone will undoubtedly produce a fair amount of wins for the Phillies this year.
